SUMMARY:Assistant/Associate Professor- Epidemiology
DESCRIPTION:Epidemiologist sought for independent tenure-track (or non-tenured) faculty position at the Assistant\, Associate Professor level in the Population Neuroscience core at the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s & Neurodegenerative Diseases (Biggs Institute) at the UT Health San Antonio (UTHSA). \n\nThe Biggs Institute is being established as a flagship\, free-standing institute within UTHSA with the mission of establishing an interdisciplinary\, integrated program to provide comprehensive clinical care and undertake innovative and important research into the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease and other neurodegenerative conditions\, including vascular contributions to dementia\, Parkinson’s disease and frontotemporal dementia. It has strong institutional and community support and will benefit from existing resources within UTHSA such as the Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies\, the Center for Biomedical Neuroscience\, the School of Nursing\, the Cancer Center\, and the Research Imaging Institute along with the San Antonio campus of the UT Health Houston School of Public Health. \n\nIn addition\, there will be opportunities for immersive\, collaborative research within the Framingham Heart Study\, the Cohorts for Heart and Aging Research in Genomic Epidemiology\, the Cross-Cohorts Collaboration Consortium\, the International Genomics of Alzheimer’s Project\, the Alzheimer’s Disease Sequencing Project\, the International Stroke Genetics Consortium and other consortia in which the founding director of the Biggs Institute\, Dr. Sudha Seshadri\, has a leadership role. \n\nThe Biggs Institute will be comprised of 5 closely integrated cores: a Clinical Care and Clinical Research Core\, a Population Neuroscience Core\, a Biological and Innovative Research Core\, an Education\, Ethics and Training Core and a Public Health\, Policy and Community Engagement Core. \n\nWe are looking for visionary\, dynamic faculty who will enjoy working hard\, leading and collaborating across disciplines\, schools\, national and international networks. Salary and benefits will be competitive and commensurate with education\, experience and publication and research funding track record. \n\nWe are seeking an epidemiologist with a doctoral degree and 2 or more years of experience in one or more of various areas of neuro-epidemiology including\, but not limited to neuroimaging (MRI\, PET)\, circulating\, CSF and other biomarkers\, vascular and metabolic risk factors\, lifestyle (such as diet\, physical activity\, sleep\, social networks and cognitive engagement)\, life-course approaches\, environmental (pollution\, built environment)\, stroke\, aging\, risk modeling and risk prediction\, genetics\, epigenetics and other omics (including metabolomics\, proteomics\, microbiome) approaches to population neuroscience. \n\nThe appointment will be with the Biggs Institute with a cross appointment within the most suitable/preferred academic department at UTHSA based on the candidate’s specialization and background\, e.g. epidemiology\, neuroimaging\, genetics. Additional teaching and administrative leadership opportunities may be negotiated in this parent academic department. The selected candidate will report directly to Drs. Seshadri and to the Chair of the selected academic department. For most candidates this academic appointment is likely to be in the Division of Epidemiology\, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the selected candidate will report directly to Drs.
