SUMMARY:Research Technician
DESCRIPTION:A full-time position is available in the cancer immunology laboratory of Dr. Karen Hastings in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix. We are seeking a well-rounded\, motivated and enthusiastic individual with experience performing research in a laboratory setting. The candidate should have prior research experience\, using techniques such as cell culture\, Western blot\, qPCR\, flow cytometry and/or mouse models. The successful candidate is expected to assist in vitro and in vivo studies. This individual should be detailed-oriented\, conscientious\, able to follow instructions and incorporate feedback\, and have the ability to communicate in a clear\, concise manner orally and in writing. \nThe Department of Basic Medical Sciences is a multidisciplinary unit composed of faculty with research interests in cardiac and vascular biology; developmental\, cell and molecular biology; evolution of vertebrate morphology; gene environment interactions and epigenetics; host-microbe interactions and immunology; medical education; platform development\, medical devices and procedures; and signaling and steroid biology. For more information about working at the University of Arizona\, please click here. \nDuties & Responsibilities \n\nPerforms scientific data collections\, reductions and analyses involving routine procedures characterized by moderate use of independent judgement.\n\n\nConducts experiments\, using various tests\, routines and analyses\, where procedures are clearly defined and results readily determined.\n\n\nMaintains detailed records of studies conducted\, organizes data\, prepares data for computer input and records computer output.\n\n\nCompiles data and generates computerized statistical data for analytical purposes using software packages; makes preliminary analyses and assists researchers in interpreting the data.\n\n\nConducts library searches to find research on related procedures and techniques that can be used in the laboratory.\n\n\nWrites summaries of projects\, documenting location\, findings and procedures used and assists in writing reports by conducting literature searches and background research; prepares bibliographies as required.\n\n\nOperates laboratory and experimental equipment such as microtomes\, microscopes\, electron microscopes\, spectrophotometers\, centrifuges\, analytical balances\, photometers and spectrometers. Performs minor repairs and makes arrangements for major repairs to be performed.\n\n\nAssists in performing necropsies and surgical procedures on research animals.\n\n\nMaintains detailed records of controlled substances used in the laboratory; packages waste material and arranges for disposal according to established procedures.\n\n\nInventories and requisitions supplies; may maintain bookkeeping records.\n\n\nTrains students and staff in the operation of equipment and/or in the performance of technical procedures.\n\nKnowledge\, Skills\, & Abilities \n\nKnowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline.\n\n\nKnowledge of modern research methods\, data collection and analyses.\n\n\nSkill in analyzing and evaluating data.\n\n\nAbility to effectively communicate.\n\nMinimum Qualifications \nPlease see Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications below. \nArizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications \nBachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR\, Four years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR\, Any equivalent combination of experience\, training and/or education. \nPreferred Qualifications \n\nPrevious laboratory-based research experience.\n\n\nA background in immunology.
