DESCRIPTION:The Department of Nutritional Sciences at The University of Arizona leads in cutting-edge Research\, outstanding Undergraduate and Graduate Programs\, Cooperative Extension Programs and Continuing Professional Education that advance the discovery and translation of the roles of nutrition and physical activity in optimizing health and wellness for people in Arizona and beyond. The Department of Nutritional Sciences announces the availability of a Research Specialist position under the supervision of Dr. (Ski) Floyd H. Chilton.\nThese position’s duties include performing a wide variety of standard laboratory experimental procedures\, analyzing data\, assisting with writing will manuscripts for publication\, and possibly leading and coordinating the work of other staff.\nThe successful candidates will possess resourcefulness and adaptability in order to address the special and changing needs of research in one specialized field. They will also have the ability to modify and adapt standard procedures to meet the needs of the project while performing preliminary analysis. These positions may require work with potentially hazardous materials such as toxic chemicals\, radiation and/or disease-causing organisms. \nDr. Chilton’s research focuses on how genetic and epigenetic variations interact with human diets (especially the modern Western diet) to drive inflammation and inflammatory disorders (including cardiovascular disease and cancer)\, as well as psychiatric/developmental disorders (ADHD\, autism spectrum disorder\, and depression). \nFunding for these positions is contingent on research grants and will be renewed annually. The individual will be expected to work collaboratively with Dr. Chilton to support research carried out in his laboratory and with his collaborators at the University of Arizona\, University of Arizona Health Sciences\, and affiliated institutions\, including Wake Forest School of Medicine\, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine\, and the University of Virginia.
