SUMMARY:Laboratory Coordinator
DESCRIPTION:We are seeking to recruit a Laboratory Coordinator in the laboratory of Dr. Kevin Gardner in the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology. The Gardner lab studies basic mechanisms of epigenetic gene regulation in breast cancer using both model systems and patient derived material (Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2009 Nov 17;106(46): 19286-91; Nat Struct Mol Biol. 2010 Dec;17(12): 1406-13; Nat Commun. 2012 Jan 17;3:633; Nat Commun. 2013;4:1449).  \nResponsibilities include but are not limited to: \n\nManaging the day to day operations of the laboratory\nMaintenance of cell lines\nCarrying out immunoprecipitation assays\nOrdering and maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies.\nKeeping track of orders and confirming billing\nSetting up and performing experiments involving tissue culture\, western blot\, DNA\, RNA\, analysis\nMaintaining records pertaining to the laboratory\, including records of experimental results.\nOperating\, maintaining and troubleshooting complex equipment (e.g. ABI 7300 Real-Time PCR system)\nAssisting in the training of new hires\, Support Staff employees\, Students and Fellows in laboratory procedures\nImplementing safety regulations\nPerforming other related duties as necessary to the functioning of the laboratory.\n\nMinimum Qualifications for Grade \nApplicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant  \nRequires a bachelor’s degree plus two years of related experience or equivalent in education\, training and experience.  \nAdditional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications \nApplicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant  \nThe successful candidate must have extensive common knowledge and skill with basic molecular and cell biology\, including mammalian tissue culture\, RNA isolation\, QPCR\, PCR\, recombinant DNA technology\, immunoblotting\, immunohistochemistry\, viral and plasmid vectors construction\, in situ hybridization\, fluorescence microscopy\, ELISA assay\, conventional reporter fluorescent and bioluminescent assays\, in situ hybridization and fluorescence microscopy.  \nMust be computer literate (MS Access\, MS Excel\, Windows and/or Mac).  \nAbility to work independently\, under minimal supervision.  \nMust demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  \nThe incumbent should be able to work independently\, be very well organized and reliable and enjoy working in an interdisciplinary and highly collaborative atmosphere where technical support will be provided for all projects in the lab.  \nSpecial Instructions  \nPreferred Qualifications  \n\nFive years of related experience.\nBachelor’s degree in chemistry\, biology or related science
