SUMMARY:Senior Scientist
DESCRIPTION:The candidate will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Ramesh Shivdasani in his laboratory at DFCI. Using intestinal epithelium as a model self-renewing adult tissue\, the laboratory studies mechanisms of gene regulation\, cell differentiation\, development\, and stem cell biology.\nThe Shivdasani Laboratory is seeking an exceptional candidate to co-lead scientific discoveries in the areas of cell differentiation\, epigenetic control mechanisms\, and cancer biology. This position will entail both independent research and a component of senior laboratory management. Opportunities for professional and scientific growth include direct supervision of laboratory staff\, publishing original research\, learning or mastering computational skills\, and if desired\, competing for grant support. This is an outstanding opportunity to take a position of responsibility and leadership in an exciting field that spans diverse disciplines.\n\nThe successful candidate will display solid credentials in many or all the following areas:\n\nPhD and 4+ years post-doctoral training in a biomedical discipline\, with a record of original scholarship\nDeep research expertise in one or more of the following fields: transcriptional regulation\, epigenetics\, cell differentiation\, stem cells\nDemonstrated ability to work on diverse problems requiring creative solutions and critical interpretation of complex data\nSkills in leadership\, decision-making and research support\, to be executed independently or in consultation with other senior staff\nRecord of solving problems that require scientific judgment and implementation of sound scientific practices\, methods\, and policies\nPrevious management experience is preferred but is dispensable if the scientific background is strong and topical\nOutstanding personal initiative\, multi-tasking skills\, attention to deadlines\, and effective team participation and leadership\nProven ability to work constructively with other managers\, scientists\, and support staff\nExcellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
