SUMMARY:Post-Doctoral Research Fellow
DESCRIPTION:A postdoctoral research fellow position is available in the Bedalov Laboratory in the Clinical Research Division. The Bedalov laboratory studies mechanisms by which chromatin modifications shape nuclear events including DNA replication and transcriptional silencing and their consequences on carcinogenesis\, aging and development.  \n \n\n\n\nResponsibilities\n\n\n\nThe post-doctoral research fellow will study molecular mechanisms that maintain the silent state of the inactive X-chromosome in female cells and will devise genetic and pharmacologic strategies for reversing transcriptional silencing of genes on the inactive X-chromosome for therapeutic purposes in genetic diseases such as Rett Syndrome. Rett Syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder in females who are heterozygous for a mutation in the X-linked gene MeCP2. The candidate will employ cell culture and murine genetics to reactivate MeCP2 in the inactive X-chromosome. \n \n\n\n\nQualifications\n\n\n\nThe minimum requirements to be considered for this position are: \n\nA PhD in a related scientific field\nAdvanced knowledge of molecular biology techniques\, tissue culture\, and viral assays and a background in molecular/cell biology\, biochemistry\nPrior experience in epigenetics and mouse genetics is highly desirable\nMust be highly motivated and able to work independently in a large research group setting to design and execute experiments
