SUMMARY:Postdoctoral Positions in Translational Leukemia Research
DESCRIPTION:The Translational Leukemia Research Program at the Perlmutter Cancer Center and New York University (NYU) School of Medicine invites post-doctoral applications in the laboratory of Dr. Raoul Tibes\, the Director of Leukemia Program. The focus of the Laboratory is the molecular-genomic characterization of primary acute myeloid leukemia (AML)\, myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPNs) in correlation of their response to current therapies and novel investigational agents\, and understanding the mechanisms of drug resistance. The Tibes laboratory has been instrumental in providing pre-clinical data based on functional genomic information for several novel treatments (i.e. epigenetic and apoptosis targeting combinations) that are currently in clinical trials for AML\, MDS and MPNs. The Tibes laboratory is highly collaborative and the successful candidate will work with leading academic clinicians and basic scientists at NYU\, other academic Cancer Centers\, and pharmaceutical companies to discover and delineate the clinical path for novel therapeutic agents. The laboratory publishes in high-impact journals and former members of the laboratory hold positions at academic institutions or biotech and pharmaceutical companies. \nCurrently available projects include: understanding the mechanisms of the anti-leukemic activity DNA damage repair interference by WEE1 and CHEK1 inhibition; characterizing epigenetic/hypomethylating agent resistance and the design of rational hypomethylating agent based combinations in AML and MDS; as well as novel therapeutic approaches for MPNs. \nThe successful candidate will have strong dedication and independence\, effectively communicate their work by publishing the results in premier journals and will be involved in grant writing with an opportunity to submit their own career awards. The applicant and projects will benefit from a scientifically stimulating environment\, with extensive resources and opportunities to collaborate within NYU and externally. There is close interaction with the PI and candidates will be actively involved in various aspects of translational cancer research and drug development. The Lab is funded by several agencies including the NCI\, LLS and ASCO and at the institutional level. \nIn addition to world-class research facilities and to opportunities within the Lab and Cancer Center\, NYU Langone Health and NYU School of Medicine has a robust career development program led by our Office of Postdoctoral Affairs.
