SUMMARY:Postdoctoral Associate
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Adams’ lab investigates the impact of chromatin and epigenetics on cellular senescence\, aging and cancer. In particular\, the lab hypothesizes that age-associated changes in chromatin and epigenetic programming contribute to the dramatic age-associated increase in incidence of cancer. While age is the biggest single risk factor for most cancers\, the reason for this is current poorly understood. \nThe lab strives to be highly collaborative with other labs in San Diego\, the US and elsewhere\, for example collaborating with computational biologists\, immunologists\, experts in specific mouse models of cancer and aging\, and surgeons\, pathologists and clinical oncologists. \nSummary\nApplications are invited from ambitious\, independent and motivated postdoctoral associate candidates to join the lab of Professor Peter D. Adams investigating the epigenetics of aging and cancer. The specific project in the broad epigenetics-cancer-aging area can be discussed\, but we are particularly interested in investigating aspects of epigenetic dysregulation in Acute Myeloid Leukemia that can be exploited for development of novel therapies. \nThe project can employ state-of-the-art molecular and cellular biology approaches\, including ChIP-seq\, RNA-seq\, ATAC-seq\, DNA methyl-seq and other large-scale epigenomic and chromatin analyses\, including at the single-cell level; high throughput chemical and RNAi/CRISPR phenotypic screens; cell imaging; state-of-the-art gene manipulations using RNAi and CRISPR technology. In addition\, we routinely employ sophisticated mouse models and human tissues. \nSan Diego has an outstanding scientific environment and a fabulous place to live. \nTO APPLY: Interested candidates should apply online to the SBP career site by submitting one PDF document with a cover letter\, CV\, references and list of any publications or accomplishments. \nDuties and Responsibilities\n\nPro-actively and semi-independently lead a project focused on epigenetics of aging and/or cancer\, e.g. epigenetic mechanisms underlying acute myeloid leukemia\nPerform cell and molecular biology experiments\nWork with mouse models of cancer and aging\nGenerate hypotheses\, design experiments\, interpret data\, trouble shoot and optimize experiments\nCollaborate and synergize with other members of the lab to promote lab synergies\nPresent results to lab members at weekly lab meetings\nPresent results and data within SBP\, local La Jolla meetings and national and international meetings\, as appropriate\nMaintain and initiate collaborations between Adams lab and other labs in SBP\, San Diego\, US and worldwide\n\nRequired Skills \nRequired Experience \n\nPh.D. degree or equivalent in biological science is required\nExperience and/or expertise in an aspect of cell and/or molecular biology and/or animal models is highly desired\n\nOther Knowledge\, Skills and/or Abilities\n\nKnowledge of molecular biology of chromatin and/or epigenetics is ideal\nKnowledge of statistical methods applied to biology\nFamiliarity with public bioinformatics databases and resources\nComputational expertise is an advantage\nCommunicates effectively and collaborates well with Principal Investigators and their team members\nHave strong organizational and problem-solving skills\nPossess strong attention to detail\, analytical and time management skills\nExcellent data presentation\, communication and interpersonal skills\nEmbody the Institute’s core values of Commitment\, Collaboration\, Communication\, Community and Compassion
