SUMMARY:Research Specialist
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this position is to design and carry out research projects on fundamentals of chromatin regulation and RNA fate during normal development and in carcinogenesis\, as well as on translating the findings of fundamental biology for clinical applications in oncology using in vitro assays as well as human cells\, mouse\, and Drosophila model organisms; support laboratory staff by maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment; maintaining logs. \nDesign/carry out experiments and collect/analyze data \n\nApply biochemical and molecular biology techniques (molecular cloning\, Western blot\, qRT-PCR\, ChIP\, ChIP-seq\, protein purification\, protein complexes reconstruction in vitro) and microscopy to conduct the research on epigenetic regulation of development and cancer.\nAssist with setting up experiments for other lab members.\nTroubleshoot experiments; resolve problems by examining and evaluating data and selecting corrective steps.\n\n\nMaintain cell cultures and Drosophila collections \n\nInventory and maintain cell cultures and Drosophila stocks.\n\n\nManage Epigenetics Laboratory \n\nPerform preventative maintenance on equipment\nTroubleshoot equipment breakdowns\nCall for repairs\nMaintain daily logs on experimental procedures\, protocols\, and equipment\nMaintain supply inventory\nMaintain lab cleanliness\, clean equipment after experiments\nProvide indirect supervision of lab staff\nAssist with article preparation\nParticipate in educational opportunities to stay current in field\n\n\nRequired Competencies: \n\nStrong communication skills.\nDetail oriented.\nWell organized.\nKnowledge of fundamental biology and bioinformatics.\nAbility to work with minimal supervision.\nAbility to follow written protocols.\n\n\n_______________________________________________________________________________________ \nMinimum Requirements: \n\nBachelor’s degree in natural sciences\, biology\, biological anthropology\, or chemistry.\n5 years experience working in a Drosophila research lab.\nExperience producing and analyzing high-throughput sequence data using Drosophila as a model organism.\nHistory of publications in peer-reviewed journals-must provide evidence.\nExperience with confocal microscopy\, biostatistics\, bioinformatics\, and qPCR.\nSuccessful completion of criminal history background check.\n\n\nIn compliance with federal law\, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. \nPreferred Qualifications: \n\nExperience with RNA Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization.\nExperience in manuscript preparation.\nExperience with live-cell imaging.\nLab management experience.
