SUMMARY:Postdoctoral Research Associate I
DESCRIPTION:The University of Arizona (UA) Division of Pulmonary\, Sleep and Critical Care Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate I. The successful candidate will be involved in independent and collaborative research focusing on translational and clinical genetics and genomics. The successful candidate will have a strong background in the study of pulmonary disease in laboratory animals and humans and vast experience working with in vitro model systems of environmental disease susceptibility. In addition to his/her own experimental procedures\, the postdoctoral fellow will work with other lab members to study genetic and epigenetic determinants of pulmonary disease\, with a focus on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cancer. \nThe primary purpose of this appointment is to engage in advanced research training for the postdoctoral fellow in preparation for an independent academic position. Under the mentorship provided by the principal investigator\, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will be engaging in research activities that include: a) daily experimental work in the lab\, b) presenting his/her experimental results both within departmental meetings and in conferences\, and writing manuscripts\, fellowship and grant applications based on his/her research results; and c) working as a member of the principal investigator’s lab team. Knowledge of mass spectrometry from running experiments to analyzing data is required for this position. \n\nDuties & Responsibilities: \n\nDaily experimental work in the laboratory.\n\n\nPresent experimental results within departmental meetings and in conferences.\n\n\nWrite manuscripts\, fellowship and grant applications based on research results.\n\n\nWork as a member of the principal investigator’s team.\n\n\nAssist researchers in the development of study protocols and informed consent documents.\n\n\nArrange secure storage of study documents.\n\n\nPerform molecular biological techniques (e.g.\, Western blot\, gene transfection\, mutagenesis\, plasmid amplification).\n\n\nAdvancement of ELISA methodology for human epidemiological and clinical studies.\n\n\nTrain new laboratory members.\n\n\nParticipate in writing grant proposals and articles.\n\n\nAttend and participate in all lab meetings.\n\n\nThere may be additional duties assigned as it relates to this position.\n\nQualifications: \n\nKnowledge of molecular and cellular biology techniques from running experiments to analyzing data is required for this position.\n\n\nDoctoral (PhD) degree in biomedical sciences or related area.\n\n\nAt least 2 years of research experience in lung biology.\n\n\nAt least 1 year of experience in molecular and cellular biology techniques to study pulmonary disease.
