SUMMARY:Wellcome Trust - Waddington Symposium: Epigenetics in dialogue with the genome
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the home page of the Wellcome Trust – Waddington Symposium Epigenetics in dialogue with THE GENOME \nThe epigenetics field encompasses diverse opinions – even the definition of the word is controversial. How much our own make-up is genetic and what proportion of it is epigenetically determined is also hotly debated. Moreover\, the ability of apparent epigenetic phenotypes (epi-alleles) to be propagated through the germline to the next generation (transgenerational epigenetic inheritance) remains contentious. These conceptual arguments take place against a background of increasing research activity – epigenetics is one of the most active areas in biomedical research. Large-scale mapping projects\, for example\, provide increasingly detailed descriptions of the “epigenome”\, raising as yet incompletely answered questions about the biological role of these chemical marks. Meanwhile there is growing interest in the therapeutic potential of “epigenetic drugs” that can modulate the epigenetic landscape. Genes encoding proteins that read\, write or erase epigenetic marks are often mutated in cancer or in neurological disease. The purpose of this meeting is to provide a forum where the breadth of biological phenomena that impinge on epigenetics can be presented by leading international figures in epigenetics research. The selected speakers reflects our wish that alternative views will be aired and constructively discussed. Our intention is that this will be seen as a landmark meeting\, contributing clarity to one of the most exciting areas of contemporary biomedical research.

SUMMARY:Cold Spring Harbor: Targeting Cancer
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to host the 81st Cold Spring Harbor Symposium which will focus on Targeting Cancer. Implications of how the underlying science can drive improvements in diagnostic\, prognostic and therapeutic approaches will be a major theme throughout the Symposium. \nThe Symposium will begin at 7:30 pm on Wednesday June 1st\, and end on the evening of Sunday June 5th. The Symposium will include nine oral sessions (invited speakers only) and two poster sessions covering the latest research in diverse areas of cancer research. The annual Dorcas Cummings lecture will be given by Charles Sawyers\, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Social events throughout the Symposium provide ample opportunity for informal interactions and will include a wine-and-cheese party\, a beach picnic\, cocktails and banquet\, and departure brunch on Monday June 6th.

SUMMARY:The 2016 Midwest Chromatin and Epigenetics Meeting (MCEM)
DESCRIPTION:Join us!\nThe 2016 Midwest Chromatin and Epigenetics Meeting (MCEM) will bring together more than 200 scientists from the American Midwest who study transcription\, chromatin and epigenetics. The meeting provides an excellent opportunity to share scientific insight\, foster the exchange of new ideas and to enhance collaboration. The meeting will be held from June 5–June 7\, 2016 at Van Andel Institute in Grand Rapids\, Michigan.
