DESCRIPTION:Job summary \nResearch Specialist: Plan\, conduct and analyze complex laboratory research in ovarian cancer biology using molecular biology\, biochemical techniques\, tissue culture systems\, and high throughput techniques. Additional responsibilities would include assisting with the management of the daily laboratory operations. Specific job duties and responsibilities would vary depending upon the course of research. Opportunities to gain experience with primary tissue culture from ovarian cancer patients and exposure to high content and high throughput screening programs. \nTo test our hypothesis that normal stromal cells are reprogrammed into cancer-associated fibroblasts through epigenetic alterations that metabolically-drive ovarian cancer metastasis. You will assist with research projects in the laboratory\, including collecting\, documenting\, analyzing and interpreting data. Tissue culture experiments involve maintaining cell lines\, primary cell isolation and culture\, transfections\, treatment regimens\, functional assays (viability\, proliferation and invasion)\, automated plating and luciferase assays. Molecular biology and biochemical techniques may include enzyme-linked immunoassays\, luciferase assays\, fluorescent assays and cloning. Assist in preparation of grant applications and manuscripts including literature searches and review. DESCRIPTION:Two postdoctoral positions are available in the Stem Cell and Leukemia Program established in the laboratory of Dr. Nadia Carlesso in the Gehr Family Center for Leukemia Research at the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope.    \nOur laboratory investigates the link between inflammation and leukemogenesis and the contribution of the bone marrow microenvironment in leukemia progression.  In particular\, we are studying the role of canonical and non-canonical Notch signaling\, NF-kB pathway and non-coding RNAs in leukemia development. Our long-term goal is to identify novel therapeutic approaches targeting simultaneously the leukemia cells and the leukemic microenvironment\, in particular in relapse. DESCRIPTION:The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics at University of Illinois College of Medicine is embarking on a new initiative in epigenetics\, systems biology and areas related to Departmental interests. The initiative will involve the recruitment of several junior faculty (tenure track Assistant Professors). DESCRIPTION:The Director of Development\, Oncology works directly with the Executive Director of Development to manage operations for the Kimmel Cancer Center Office of Development. The Director will plan and implement private sector fundraising to support the research\, teaching and patient care mission of the Kimmel Cancer Center. This position directly supervises 3 gift officers (Assistant\, Associate & Sr. Associate Director)\, and one Administrative Manager whom oversees 3 Administrative Coordinators. \nThe development program within the Department raises over approximately $50M annually and is continually building a robust and respected development team. \nThe current Divisional responsibilities for this position include: \n• Division of Hematologic Malignancies (Leukemia Program); \n• Upper Aerodigestive Cancer Program (including head and neck\, esophageal); \n• Melanoma Program \n• Breast & Ovarian Cancer Program \n• Cancer Biology Program (including colon genomics\, breast epigenetics) \n• The Adult Sarcoma Center (soft tissue\, bone) \n• Brain and Spinal Tumor Program (neuro-oncology) \n• Palliative Care and Pain Program \nSpecific Responsibilities\nThe Director works directly with the Divisions and Programs as described above\, as well as other Divisions as assigned\, to develop support for a robust development program focused on raising major gifts ($100K+) from grateful patients and other interested donors. The candidate also works with faculty to develop and deliver grant proposals to private foundations and corporations. \nResponsible for training\, engaging\, and working with at least 15 faculty members\, of which the majority are senior faculty program leaders with primary appointments in the Department of Oncology\, for the development of a new patient pipeline of donors through the identification\, qualification\, strategy development\, and solicitation of grateful patient prospects and their families. Also train and engage junior faculty to continue building a culture of philanthropy. \nIn collaboration with the Executive Director\, implements a personal work-plan with appropriate goals while managing 110 prospects\, 45 proposals\, 120 visits and approximately 25 stewardship plans to meet Johns Hopkins’ performance expectations and achieve established fund raising targets. \nManages work plans for Sr. Associate Director and Associate Director of Development. Develops and sets appropriate goals and establishes fund raising targets for the positions. Provides guidance on pipeline building and portfolio management. \nBolster the administrative support functions of the team to ensure that fundraisers have easy access to the resources they need. Investigate opportunities to use new technologies in support of major gift fundraising activities and programs. \nComprehensively understands the tripartite mission of research\, teaching\, and patient care programs within Divisional areas and Programs of responsibility with an ability to effectively communicate these priorities to diverse audiences through individual meetings and proposal building. Also understands the basis of service delivery for clinical care to lead navigation of complex medical referrals. Ability to interact\, provide hospitality\, and manage expectations with high profile individuals who need acute medical care. \nStructures\, develops\, and reports on a highly effective departmental fund raising program with Executive Director of Development that includes identification\, qualification\, cultivation\, solicitation\, and focused stewardship of major gift prospects for campaign specific projects while working in conjunction with division and program faculty on surpassing our $600M campaign goal. Also works across departments and schools\, outside of oncology as needed\, to develop and integrate programming into proposals. \nManagement of portfolio of individual stewardship plans\, which consists of approximately 40 donors who have made gifts of $100K+. \nPlans and implements major gift activity and supports office operations to meet priorities by: \nWorking closely with the Executive Director to establish annual fundraising goals based upon an assessment of the qualified donor portfolio and the priorities of the department and faculty.\nIdentifying and evaluating giving potential of prospects; developing strategic plans of cultivation and solicitation strategies. Effective preparation of written case proposals and correspondence for major gift prospects and donors.\nSupporting Executive Director in development of principal level solicitations through development of proposals.\nDeveloping\, in consultation with the Executive Director of Development\, an annual work plan including the management of a portfolio of 110 major gift prospects\, a schedule of fundraising goals and proposals to be presented\, and 120 planned visits in accordance with institutional standards.\nWorking with Executive Director related to benchmarking initiatives both nationally and internally\, department metrics\, and data analysis.\nWorking with Executive Director on the further development and support of Kimmel Cancer’s National Advisory Board by identifying potential new members and engaging existing members.\nWorking with Executive Director on establishment and integration of Departmental Development Program in partner hospitals. An interdisciplinary group of researchers in medicine\, pharmacy\, nursing\, biology\, chemistry\, and social work will be hired to lead research efforts directed at the delivery of personalized cancer treatments and customized cancer prevention. DESCRIPTION:Post Doctoral Fellow positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Matthew Weitzman\, at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the University of Pennsylvania (Penn). Our lab is part of the rich scientific environment on the CHOP/Penn campus that includes multiple areas of virology\, immunology\, cancer\, and epigenetics. We are located in the new Colket Translational Research Building as part of the Division of Cancer Pathobiology\, in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. The lab is also part of the Center for Childhood Cancer Research (CCCR)\, the Center for Cellular & Molecular Therapeutics (CCMT)\, the Penn Institute for Immunology (IFI)\, the Penn Epigenetics program\, and Penn Center for AIDS Research (CFAR). \nThe lab’s research focuses on virus-host interactions and the use of viruses as model systems to study DNA repair\, signaling\, cell biology\, replication\, innate host defenses and gene delivery. We are interested in virus replication and the resulting cellular responses. We study the intersection of virus and host pathways during infection and how they reveal insights into fundamental cellular mechanisms. We are particularly interested in recognition and processing of viral genomes by DNA repair and APOBEC pathways. We are using virus systems to study signaling\, ubiquitination and degradation\, and transcriptional silencing. DESCRIPTION:Funding\nThe scheme runs in three parts (Postdoctoral fellowship\, Junior Fellowship and Senior Fellowship)\, with only those entering the scheme as postdoctoral researchers eligible for the latter grants. It is envisaged that the Senior Fellowship will be based in the UK and\, as such\, only applicants open to move to the UK should apply. \nThe initial stage of this scheme is to support a named Postdoctoral Fellow over a period of three years. The funding limit is £180\,000over this period and the application must address one of the areas identified in ‘A Cure Can’t Wait‘. \nAt the end of the first stage\, successful applicants will be invited to submit a further application for a Junior Fellowship\, available for four years of funding. The amount awarded for this period will total up to £480\,000 to support themselves and a research associate in a host laboratory. The programme of work should continue to develop the themes that they have been working on as a Postdoctoral Fellow. However\, it is expected that the researcher will begin to develop their own group and independent research. \nFinally\, upon successful application\, a Senior Fellowship will be awarded with up to £1\,000\,000 for five years to support the applicant and a small group. DESCRIPTION:This position affords an exciting opportunity to be an integral component of a well-established group in studies conducting basic and translational gastrointestinal cancer research. A successful candidate will focus on comprehensively investigating the impact of oxidative stress\, inflammation\, and DNA damage and repair on GI cancer development and progression\, using a combination of in vitro\, 3D organoid\, and in vivo analyses using mouse models. SUMMARY:Postdoc Research Associate
DESCRIPTION:A Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center Research Laboratory aims to understand the pathogenesis and pharmacogenomics of pancreatic cancer in order to accelerate its treatment. Using a combination of molecular and genomic data\, and human in mouse models\, we have identified four core subtypes in pancreatic cancer with important biologic and clinical implications. We are seeking a postdoctoral associate in cancer genomics and personalized medicine who will be responsible for computational method development\, data analysis\, and experimental design. The qualified candidate will integrate information from a combination of sources\, including high throughput screens\, proteomic\, and next-gen sequencing data in order to generate and validate hypotheses of therapeutic relevance to pancreatic cancer. The ideal candidate will have excellent qualifications in a quantitative/computational field with a strong interest in learning cancer biology and/or wet bench techniques. Candidates from a largely wet bench background with a Ph.D. may be considered if the quantitative/computational background is excellent.   \nTo be successful\, the candidate must have experience in and interested in developing several of the following skill-sets: -Thorough knowledge of cancer biology\, epigenetics\, proteomics\, and transcriptomics -Familiarity with next-generation sequencing data analysis tools -Experience working in Linux environments\, including batch job management on shared computing resources -Familiarity with a variety of supervised and unsupervised classification techniques -Proficiency in one or more statistical or scripting languages\, preferably R or MATLAB -Knowledge of survival-based statistical analysis\, e.g. Cox regression and Kaplan-Meier analysis -Working knowledge of best-practices for machine learning to avoid over fitting -Familiarity with common experimental techniques in molecular biology -Ability to communicate scientific material and collaborate well with computational and non-computational partners -Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to perform both self-directed and guided research -Outstanding personal initiative and the ability to work effectively as part of a team -Willingness to assist in the mentorship and training of pre-doctoral researchers Ph.D. in a quantitative/computational field or a Ph.D. with an equivalent certificate in a quantitative/computational field is required. -Have experience in handling large datasets and have applied/developed computational algorithms in the context of molecular biology. -Have a thorough understanding of common statistical tests and distributions.  \nBe able to collaborate with experimental team members for validation of computational results. -Be comfortable maintaining datasets\, as well as displaying and interpreting processed data for publication. -Work alongside domain experts in the optimization and development of experimental measurement platforms and protocols.   \n

DESCRIPTION:We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to move our research forward. The Sherman Lab aims to understand the transcriptional and epigenetic gene-regulatory networks that underlie tumor-stroma interactions in pancreatic cancer\, and to target these networks for therapeutic benefit.  Our research focuses on the mechanisms by which stromal fibroblasts in the pancreatic tumor microenvironment influence cancer cell gene expression\, metabolism\, and growth.  Our laboratory uses a multidisciplinary approach to investigate the mechanistic underpinnings of the pancreatic tumor microenvironment\, including mouse models of pancreatic cancer\, three-dimensional cell culture systems such as patient-derived organoids\, and diverse molecular- and cell-biological techniques focused on gene regulation.  \nThe ideal candidate for this position will be highly interactive\, but capable of working independently on research focused on tumor-permissive molecular mechanisms underlying cancer-associated fibroblast function\, and how these stromal mechanisms affect cell fate and function in the pancreatic epithelium. \nIdeal candidates should have no more than 1 year of postdoctoral experience\, and are expected to compete for internal and external funding.
