DESCRIPTION:The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics at University of Illinois College of Medicine is embarking on a new initiative in epigenetics\, systems biology and areas related to Departmental interests. The initiative will involve the recruitment of several junior faculty (tenure track Assistant Professors). The areas of expertise we anticipate recruiting include biochemistry\, molecular genetics\, cell biology and bioinformatics as they apply to the investigation of healthy and disease states. SUMMARY:Research Fellow - Molecular Pharmacology
DESCRIPTION:Position Summary:  \nThe successful candidate will join the Epigenetic Etiology of Human Disease Laboratory to study the role of DNA epigenetic modifications in human disease. More specifically\, he/she will examine how DNA methylating and hydroxymethylating enzymes regulate their respective DNA epigenetic modifications and how these marks regulate expression and genome stability\, and interface with other epigenetic modifications. Disease focus areas of the laboratory include cancer (hepatocellular\, renal\, and glioma)\, obesity\, and diabetes. Specific research areas include application of genome-wide epigenomics methods to decipher DNA methylation/hydroxymethylation defects in cancer and biochemical/cell culture-based techniques to study the regulation and interactions between chromatin remodeling factors (e.g. DNMTs\, TETs\, HMTases). Techniques commonly used in the laboratory include: quantitative RT-PCR\, western blotting\, tissue culture\, transfections\, bisulfite sequencing\, pyrosequencing\, ChIP-qPCR\, ChIP-seq\, next-gen library preparation and sequencing\, Infinium 850k arrays\, RRBS\, DIP-seq\, bioinformatics analysis\, and biochemical analysis of protein function. Experience in one or more of these areas is a plus. The candidate will play a major role in the preparation of manuscripts that arise from this work and devote 100% effort to these tasks (no patient contact or other responsibilities). The candidate will also participate in meetings (local and national)\, seminars\, and journal clubs. \nResponsibilities: A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. DESCRIPTION:The University of Arizona (UA) Division of Pulmonary\, Sleep and Critical Care Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate I. The successful candidate will be involved in independent and collaborative research focusing on translational and clinical genetics and genomics. The successful candidate will have a strong background in the study of pulmonary disease in laboratory animals and humans and vast experience working with in vitro model systems of environmental disease susceptibility. In addition to his/her own experimental procedures\, the postdoctoral fellow will work with other lab members to study genetic and epigenetic determinants of pulmonary disease\, with a focus on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cancer. \nThe primary purpose of this appointment is to engage in advanced research training for the postdoctoral fellow in preparation for an independent academic position. Under the mentorship provided by the principal investigator\, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will be engaging in research activities that include: a) daily experimental work in the lab\, b) presenting his/her experimental results both within departmental meetings and in conferences\, and writing manuscripts\, fellowship and grant applications based on his/her research results; and c) working as a member of the principal investigator’s lab team. The candidate is required to have a strong background in disease or mechanism based studies using modern experimental and computational methods. While understanding of epigenetics and epigenetic experimental approaches are not essential\, it is highly desirable. Knowledge of myeloma is desirable but not required. \nQualifications \nPrerequisites: \nPhD in cancer biology\, genetics\, epigenetics \nSkills/Knowledge Required: \n\nPrior experience in molecular\, cellular\, functional and computational methods\nExperience in heme malignancy related areas\nAbility to formulate experimental ideas\nDemonstrated writing and commutation skills\nAbility work in a collaborative team science environment

SUMMARY:Associate Scientist - Biomarker Development Laboratory
DESCRIPTION:An Associate Scientist position is available in the Pathology Biomarker Development laboratory\, in the Department of Pathology. This lab studies molecular biomarkers of diagnostic\, prognostic and therapeutic significance for diseases affecting St. Jude patients. We evaluate the feasibility and clinical utility of novel assays\, to determine whether they may be integrated into clinical diagnostic practice. \n Currently\, our lab is working on utilizing Illumina methylation arrays as a diagnostic tool\, exploring the utility of cell free DNA to monitor response to therapy\, and investigating the use of protein microarrays to identify disease biomarkers and therapeutic targets.  \nPrevious experience with research techniques including genomic analysis\, NGS\, methylation profiling and protein analysis are all strongly preferred. Strong skills in novel assay development and validation are preferred. Candidates with experience in cancer genomics\, genetics or epigenetics and strong problem solving skills are highly encouraged to apply. \n \n\n\n\nMinimum Education:\n\n\n\n\nBachelor’s degree in an appropriate scientific field is required.\n\n \n\n\n\nMinimum Experience:\n\n\n\n\nA minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Bachelor’s degree\, with at least seven (7) years at the Research Lab Specialist level\nA minimum of fourteen (14) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Master’s degree\, with at least seven (7) years at the Research Lab Specialist level\nA minimum of nine (9) years of relevant work experience including post-doctoral and/or technical staff experience is required with Ph.D.
