SUMMARY:Associate Manager – CHM
DESCRIPTION:The Associate Manager will work with an expanding team of research\, clinical and computational investigators working in cancer genomics under the auspices of the Center of Heme Malignancies\, the Department of Pediatrics and the Center for Molecular Oncology at MSKCC. \nWe have a strong research focus on pediatric and blood cancers. In our research we plan to prospectively profile all pediatric cancers by wholegenome\, as well as whole exome sequencing and RNA sequencing and study these alongside cell and patient derived xenograft models. To study the role of genetic and clonal heterogeneity in cancer we study spatially and temporally separated samples and accompany these by single cell derived experimental models. Additionally we routinely profile patients with advanced disease and no available therapeutic treatments\, patients with no known drivers as well as active patients on our clinical trials. \nOur mission is to establish a fully integrated research program that coordinates basic scientific discovery\, early-phase clinical trials\, and drug development. As part of the center’s clinical and research investigations we are generating a wealth of genomic annotation data to inform clinical decision support and develop diagnostic and disease surveillance assays informed by molecular markers. To this effect we are also developing novel methods such as deep molecular barcoding assays for monitoring minimal residual disease and or circulating tumor DNA. \nYou Will: \nThe Associate Manager in Computational Biology will have a strong track record on the development\, implementation and deployment of next generation sequencing pipelines. The candidate will have proven experience in the delivery of high-quality genome profiling analysis data to include wholgenome\, exome and panel sequencing and RNA-sequencing. The candidate will understand well key principles of genome profiling data (sources of error\, quality control\, variant annotation) and will be an expert in genome annotation methods to include variant calling (substitutions\, indels\, structural variation\, copy number alterations)\, assessment of purity and ploidy\, reconstruction of clonal phylogenies and assessment of gene expression. As a senior computational biologist the candidate will also be responsible for the development of novel bioinformatics solutions to address the growing demands of assay development in our laboratories. \nThe candidate will work alongside a team of engineers and computational biologists and will directly lead an expanding team of bioinformatics data scientists. SUMMARY:Clinical Leader - Cancer Precision Medicine
DESCRIPTION:The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and The University of North Carolina School of Medicine seek an exceptional physician scientist to lead our efforts in Cancer Precision Medicine. Over the past decade\, UNC Lineberger emerged as a leader in the NCI TCGA effort. We have developed an infrastructure for sequencing\, bioinformatic analyses\, molecular pathology\, and their application to patient care through a molecular tumor board. We now search for a translational scientist to head the clinical aspects of an expanding program. We are currently developing novel CLIA assays as well as methodologies to perform genomic analysis to identify somatic and germline mutations\, evaluate transcriptome expression using RNA-sequencing\, and characterize immune repertoires using next generation sequencing. We have developed robust applications for data analysis and anticipate that the person leading this group will utilize these other tools they develop to enhance personalized care for cancer patients and prospective clinical trials. The position is tenure track and open to those at all ranks. SUMMARY:Post Doctoral Associate
DESCRIPTION:A position is available for Post-doctoral training in cancer biology /translational biology in a newly forming laboratory of Dr. Jason Shohet at UMass Medical School. This is an opportunity to work with a leading investigator in pediatric cancer translational biology with extensive experience using in vivo and in vitro tumor models for preclinical validation of novel therapeutic targets.  Currently funded projects include defining and targeting tumor heterogeneity at the single cell level\, including genetic and epigenetic characterization of cancer stem-cell subpopulations.  We also focus on defining novel functions and interactions of the MYCN oncogene and its role as both a transcription factor and co-factor with other DNA binding transcription factors.  Opportunities to study the developmental biology of neural crest and its role in neuroblastoma biology are an additional interest of the laboratory. Our goals are to develop innovative therapies based on in vitro and in vivo tumor models to improve survival (currently less than 50%) and decrease morbidity from chemotherapy based treatment. We are looking for an ambitious\, highly motivated postdoctoral fellow with outstanding laboratory and critical thinking skills.  \n \n\n\n\nQualifications\n\n\n\nREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: \n  \nSuccessful applicants should have excellent experimental expertise in molecular biology (CRISPR/Cas\, shRNA\, cloning and qPCR) and/or mouse models of cancer. Preferred expertise includes live-animal imaging\, and strong molecular biology skills including eukaryotic tissue culture of primary and secondary tumor cell lines. Experience with flow cytometry and FACS purification of cell subsets is a plus. We are a multidisciplinary research group\, undertaking a number of collaborative projects involving large international consortia.  The projects will involve any/all of the following research focuses. \n\nExploration of the role of aberrant DNA methylation\, histone modifications and non-coding RNA’s (miRNA\, lncRNAs\, snoRNAs\, piRNAs etc.) in gastrointestinal cancers.\nEstablishment of innovative methodologies for the development of epigenetic and non-coding RNA’s-based biomarkers for the earlier diagnosis\, prognosis and predictive responses to chemotherapy in gastrointestinal neoplasia.\nA better understanding of the translational and clinical role of genetic and epigenetic signatures in gastrointestinal cancers.\nUnderstanding the genetic basis of early-onset and familial colorectal cancers.\nChemoprevention of gastrointestinal cancers using dietary nutraceuticals\, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)\, and other drugs.\nMolecular mechanisms of cancer chemotherapy\, stem cells\, chemo-resistance and chemo-sensitization.\nGut microbiome\, and its influence on gastrointestinal cancers.\n\n  \nThe position is largely computational but involves substantial collaboration with wet-lab researchers providing data and is focused on fundamental biology.  This interdisciplinary position offers opportunities to address important questions in computational biology and cancer genomics with first access to large novel data sets from various genomic/epigenomic platforms.  We have a strong preference for bioinformaticians/computational biologists with a deep appreciation of biological phenomena or\, alternatively\, experimentalists with a solid background in bioinformatics/computational biology analysis of transcriptomic and genomic data with regard to detection of differentially expressed genes\, noncoding RNA’s\, DNA methylation and differential processing profiles.   \n  \nThis individual will also have the opportunity to develop original statistical and machine learning methodologies and analytical and computational tools to extract knowledge from complex and big data.  \nThe ideal candidate will possess: \n\nAn excellent track record of analyzing next generation sequencing data in cancer\, particularly whole genome\, RNASeq and methylation sequencing analysis including:\nDifferential expression analysis\, SNV calling\, indel calling\, rearrangement/translocation calling\, CNV identification and analysis.\n\n\nA good knowledge and understanding of cancer biology\nPassion for science and reproducible scientific work\nProficient in spoken and written English\nBeing comfortable in interacting with colleagues in an interdisciplinary setting

DESCRIPTION:Dr. Kapil N. Bhalla is currently seeking a Research Scientist who will be responsible for conducting research in his NIH-funded laboratory. The focus of the basic and translational research in this laboratory includes the biology and developmental therapeutics related to epigenetic mechanisms involving histone deacetylases\, methyltransferases and demethylases\, BET proteins\, as well as the chaperone biology of heat shock proteins and their cancer relevant client proteins regulating cell growth\, differentiation and survival of the human leukemia stem/progenitor cells. \n\nThe preferred candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Biology\, Biological Sciences\, Life Sciences or related field; a keen interest and experience in cancer research and excellent English skills (both written and verbal).  The preferred candidate will have completed at least a 3 year Post-doctoral fellowship in an area relevant to the focus of research in Dr. Bhalla’s laboratory. In addition\, have the ability to troubleshoot in the design and conduct the laboratory studies. Experience in molecular studies involving gene transfection\, analysis of gene expression through QPCR\, microarrays\, immunoblots and flow cytometry\, as well as experience in chromatin immunoprecipitation studies\, evaluation of protein biochemistry with 2D gels and the yeast-two-hybrid system\, and tissue culture techniques is required. Experience in the ability to utilize CRISPR technology for gene editing and to utilize confocal microscopy for molecular imaging is highly desired. Experience in xenograft and genetically-engineered animal models of cancer and/or leukemia\, and confocal microscopy is also desired.  An outstanding research environment\, new laboratory and core facilities are provided. \n\nKEY FUNCTIONS \n  \n1. The basic and translational research focus of this laboratory includes epigenetic mechanisms involving histone deacetylases\, methyltransferases and demethylases\, heat shock proteins and their cancer and leukemia-relevant client proteins\, as well as transfection and functional analyses of genes regulating cell death/survival of human cancer cells. Experience in animal studies involving NOD/SCID or nude mice\, and mouse imaging (xenogen and MRI) is highly desirable. Experience in molecular techniques involving plasmid DNA preparations and transfection\, the analysis of gene expression including QPCR\, microarrays\, chromatin immunoprecipitation\, evaluation of protein biochemistry with 2D gels\, animal models\, the yeast-two-hybrid system\, confocal microscopy and tissue culture are also preferred. \n2. Plans\, organizes\, coordinates\, directs\, and participates in scientific research projects.  \nPerforms quality research in relation to current research projects\, and other identified needs. Interprets results of experiments\, and makes necessary changes in procedures when needed.  Compiles data sheets. \n3. Organizes and performs routine procedures involving molecular biology and biochemistry of RNA processing. Requires experience in tissue culture\, DNA & RNA preparation\, PCR\, DNA cloning\, protein synthesis and electrophoresis. \n  \nResponsible for providing laboratory services\, tissue culture\, processing research samples\, and/or cataloging samples as required. Interacts with the principal investigators\, postdoctoral fellows and other research personnel in communicating experimental design and results. \n4. Requires knowledge of standard radiographic techniques. Dark room usage is essential as is use and proper handling of radioisotopes. \nMust be able to comply with all institutional safety policies including Universal Precautions and OSHA standards when handling toxic\, hazardous\, flammable\, or potentially infectious or carcinogenic materials.  This may require wearing common protective garments or equipment such as gloves\, eye protection\, face mask\, gown or lab coat\, etc.  Additionally some procedures may require the use of a fume hood or biological safety cabinet. \n5. Work with laboratory animals such as mice and rats and to perform interventional procedures such as tail vein injections and orthotopic implantations. Retrieves\, maintains\, and catalogs specimen stocks from outside reference laboratories.  Assists in other laboratory activities as needed. \n6. Performs and coordinates scientific experiments in a collaborative effort with other technicians\, postdoctoral fellows\, and staff members.  Monitors work flow as it pertains to the need for supplies\, equipment maintenance and stock solutions.  Performs preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment. \n7. Equipment monitoring on a daily basis verifying correct temperatures of freezers\, refrigerators\, incubators\, etc.  Equipment maintenance on a weekly basis includes cleaning and disinfecting refrigerators and incubators.  Daily counter clean up and disinfection to ensure safety of the laboratory work place.  Bags waste and transports to appropriate refuse area utilizing safety standards and guidelines.  Maintains all safety precautions. \n8. Assigns and reviews work of subordinates\, determines specific goals or objectives to be attained\, evaluates resulting research data\, and revises techniques or approaches to work problems. Supervises the design\, development\, or adapting of equipment used in experiments or research to obtain desired results. Utilizes institutional and departmental databases to perform data retrieval for analysis.  Designs retrieval templates for standard queries.  Apply bio-statistical methods in analyzing clinical data such as pretreatment characteristics\, response to treatment\, toxicities\, and mortality\, etc.  \nConducts Library Work.  Finds and copies journal articles as required.  Reads and understands articles related to ongoing research.  Maintains references in a manual filing system.  Requires good reading and comprehension skills as well as diligence\, patience and ability to carry several heavy books at a time. \n9. Assemble samples\, reagents\, dry or wet ice\, data and packaging materials; draft a cover letter\, accurately and legibly fill out shipping labels; carry package to receiving area on ground floor prior to pick up.  Keep accurate legible logs of outgoing and incoming packages.  For incoming packages\, ascertain contents\, store at appropriate location\, file information sheets and notify principal investigator.  Update pertinent inventory logs. \n10. Compiles\, writes\, and submits reports to superior.  Plans and supervises the training of technicians and other laboratory personnel with respect to proper laboratory techniques\, the use of laboratory equipment\, and safety procedures. \n11. DESCRIPTION:We are seeking for a full time post-doctoral fellow in the cancer biology laboratory of Dr. Andrew Lane in the Hematologic Neoplasia Division of the Department of Medical Oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute\, Boston\, Massachusetts\, USA.  The ideal candidate should be a highly motivated PhD\, MD\, or MD\, PhD that has a record of stellar productivity during graduate training\, and is looking for a first post-doctoral position. The candidate would be expected to have familiarity with standard tissue culture\, FACS analysis\, and other molecular and cell biology techniques; and mouse experience would be an advantage. Alternatively\, candidates with bioinformatic and programming skills and training required for analysis of large sequencing-based (DNA\, RNA\, epigenetic) datasets will be considered. Our current research efforts are directed towards understanding the molecular and cellular pathways underlying the pathogenesis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) using a combination of genetics\, genomics\, biochemistry\, proteomics\, molecular biology and cellular biology approaches. Our experimental systems include both genetic mouse models and primary leukemia stem cells from AML patients. Will also work with Committee Members to complete special projects stemming from these Committee meetings.\n \nCANCER CENTER SUPPORT GRANT(CCSG)\nThis position will work with the leaders of the research programs in order to achieve NCI designation. The manager will take the lead on:\n1. Ensuring all CCSG data is accurate and adheres to the grant’s guidelines.\n2. Monitoring CCSG funding metrics and advising the program leader’s of critical changes.\n3. Will work with program leaders on written portions of the CCSG as far as content and program metrics.\n4.
