DESCRIPTION:A postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Dr. Gavin Ha and the Computational Biology Program is available immediately. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who is interested in studying cancer and understanding the genetic and epigenetic basis driving cancer progression. Candidates who are excited about large/complex ‘omics’ data analysis and methods development for cancer research are encouraged to apply. The position has a duration of at least one year with a competitive salary and great benefits. \n\nThe Ha lab is establishing a research program that uses new DNA sequencing technologies to study cancer genomes. The lab is also focused on research involving liquid biopsies\, such as cell-free DNA\, and developing new computational approaches to leverage these data for genome discovery and cancer burden monitoring. DESCRIPTION:The Translational Leukemia Research Program at the Perlmutter Cancer Center and New York University (NYU) School of Medicine invites post-doctoral applications in the laboratory of Dr. Raoul Tibes\, the Director of Leukemia Program. The focus of the Laboratory is the molecular-genomic characterization of primary acute myeloid leukemia (AML)\, myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPNs) in correlation of their response to current therapies and novel investigational agents\, and understanding the mechanisms of drug resistance. The Tibes laboratory has been instrumental in providing pre-clinical data based on functional genomic information for several novel treatments (i.e. epigenetic and apoptosis targeting combinations) that are currently in clinical trials for AML\, MDS and MPNs. The Tibes laboratory is highly collaborative and the successful candidate will work with leading academic clinicians and basic scientists at NYU\, other academic Cancer Centers\, and pharmaceutical companies to discover and delineate the clinical path for novel therapeutic agents. The laboratory publishes in high-impact journals and former members of the laboratory hold positions at academic institutions or biotech and pharmaceutical companies. \nCurrently available projects include: understanding the mechanisms of the anti-leukemic activity DNA damage repair interference by WEE1 and CHEK1 inhibition; characterizing epigenetic/hypomethylating agent resistance and the design of rational hypomethylating agent based combinations in AML and MDS; as well as novel therapeutic approaches for MPNs. \nThe successful candidate will have strong dedication and independence\, effectively communicate their work by publishing the results in premier journals and will be involved in grant writing with an opportunity to submit their own career awards. The applicant and projects will benefit from a scientifically stimulating environment\, with extensive resources and opportunities to collaborate within NYU and externally. There is close interaction with the PI and candidates will be actively involved in various aspects of translational cancer research and drug development. DESCRIPTION:Dr. Kapil N. Bhalla is currently seeking a Senior Research Scientist who will be responsible for conducting research in his NIH-funded laboratory. The focus of the basic and translational research in this laboratory includes the biology and developmental therapeutics related to epigenetic mechanisms involving histone deacetylases\, methyltransferases and demethylases\, BET proteins\, as well as the chaperone biology of heat shock proteins and their cancer relevant client proteins regulating cell growth\, differentiation and survival of the human leukemia stem/progenitor cells. The qualified candidate must possess a Ph.D. in Biology\, Biological Sciences\, Life Sciences or related field and a keen interest and experience in cancer research. The candidate must have completed at least a 3 year Post-doctoral fellowship in an area relevant to the focus of research in Dr. Bhalla’s laboratory. The qualified candidate must have the ability to troubleshoot in the design and conduct of the laboratory studies. Experience in molecular studies involving gene transfection\, analysis of gene expression through QPCR\, microarrays\, immunoblots and flow cytometry\, as well as experience in chromatin immunoprecipitation studies\, evaluation of protein biochemistry with 2D gels and the yeast-two-hybrid system\, and tissue culture techniques is required. Experience in the ability to utilize CRISPR technology for gene editing and to utilize confocal microscopy for molecular imaging is highly desired. Experience in xenograft and genetically-engineered animal models of cancer and/or leukemia\, and confocal microscopy is also desired. An outstanding research environment\, new laboratory and core facilities are provided.  \nThe salary range is: min-$53\,200\, mid-$66\,500 and max-$79\,800.  \nKEY FUNCTIONS  \nResearch Design and implementation  \nPlans\, organizes\, coordinates\, directs and conducts scientific research projects. SUMMARY:Research Specialist
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of this position is to design and carry out research projects on fundamentals of chromatin regulation and RNA fate during normal development and in carcinogenesis\, as well as on translating the findings of fundamental biology for clinical applications in oncology using in vitro assays as well as human cells\, mouse\, and Drosophila model organisms; support laboratory staff by maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment; maintaining logs. \nDesign/carry out experiments and collect/analyze data \n\nApply biochemical and molecular biology techniques (molecular cloning\, Western blot\, qRT-PCR\, ChIP\, ChIP-seq\, protein purification\, protein complexes reconstruction in vitro) and microscopy to conduct the research on epigenetic regulation of development and cancer.\nAssist with setting up experiments for other lab members.\nTroubleshoot experiments; resolve problems by examining and evaluating data and selecting corrective steps.\n\n\nMaintain cell cultures and Drosophila collections \n\nInventory and maintain cell cultures and Drosophila stocks.\n\n\nManage Epigenetics Laboratory \n\nPerform preventative maintenance on equipment\nTroubleshoot equipment breakdowns\nCall for repairs\nMaintain daily logs on experimental procedures\, protocols\, and equipment\nMaintain supply inventory\nMaintain lab cleanliness\, clean equipment after experiments\nProvide indirect supervision of lab staff\nAssist with article preparation\nParticipate in educational opportunities to stay current in field\n\n\nRequired Competencies: \n\nStrong communication skills.\nDetail oriented.\nWell organized.\nKnowledge of fundamental biology and bioinformatics.\nAbility to work with minimal supervision.\nAbility to follow written protocols.\n\n\n_______________________________________________________________________________________ \nMinimum Requirements: \n\nBachelor’s degree in natural sciences\, biology\, biological anthropology\, or chemistry.\n5 years experience working in a Drosophila research lab.\nExperience producing and analyzing high-throughput sequence data using Drosophila as a model organism.\nHistory of publications in peer-reviewed journals-must provide evidence.\nExperience with confocal microscopy\, biostatistics\, bioinformatics\, and qPCR.\nSuccessful completion of criminal history background check.\n\n\nIn compliance with federal law\, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. \nPreferred Qualifications: \n\nExperience with RNA Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization.\nExperience in manuscript preparation.\nExperience with live-cell imaging.\nLab management experience.
