Associate Scientist
October 27, 2018 - November 28, 2018
The Obeng Lab is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented, and creative Associate Scientist to join them as an integral part of the St. Jude research community. The focus of the Obeng Lab is myeloid malignancies. We are specifically interested in how acquired mutations in hematopoietic stem cells block mature blood cell differentiation and/or cause leukemic transformation. We are using a variety of in vivo and in vitro model systems to study the functional consequences of RNA splicing factor and epigenetic modifier mutations on stem cell function and to identify new targeted therapies for myeloid diseases. Successful applicants will respond well to a busy and dynamic lab environment and possess the skills to diligently manage both experiments and personnel within the laboratory. They will possess strong organizational and communication skills. This position requires expertise in molecular biology, cell culture, colony management, and next generation sequencing. The ideal candidate must be able to design and perform experiments with minimal supervision and be interested in learning and applying new techniques from the literature. A background in hematopoiesis research is a plus.
