E-cigarettes, is vaping potentially carcinogenic?

E-cigarettes, which allow people to inhale nicotine in vapor rather than in smoke, are a popular alternative to cigarettes, especially among teenagers.

Are they safe? Researchers from UCSF (San Francisco, CA, USA) found dangerous and potentially carcinogenic chemicals, including acrylamide and diacetyl in vaping adolescents. Diacetyl is a toxic agent that can cause “popcorn lung”, a potentially deadly disease.

The fruit-flavored e-cigarettes showed the highest level of dangerous chemicals: glycerin in e-cigarettes reacts with flavors to produce harmful compounds.

Vaping does not help quit smoking as e-cigarettes contain nicotine, which is the addictive chemical in cigarettes.
