Research Specialist

The purpose of this position is to design and carry out research projects on fundamentals of chromatin regulation and RNA fate during normal development and in carcinogenesis, as well as on translating the findings of fundamental biology for clinical applications in oncology using in vitro assays as well as human cells, mouse, and Drosophila model organisms; support laboratory staff by maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment; maintaining logs.
Design/carry out experiments and collect/analyze data
- Apply biochemical and molecular biology techniques (molecular cloning, Western blot, qRT-PCR, ChIP, ChIP-seq, protein purification, protein complexes reconstruction in vitro) and microscopy to conduct the research on epigenetic regulation of development and cancer.
- Assist with setting up experiments for other lab members.
- Troubleshoot experiments; resolve problems by examining and evaluating data and selecting corrective steps.
Maintain cell cultures and Drosophila collections
- Inventory and maintain cell cultures and Drosophila stocks.
Manage Epigenetics Laboratory
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment
- Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns
- Call for repairs
- Maintain daily logs on experimental procedures, protocols, and equipment
- Maintain supply inventory
- Maintain lab cleanliness, clean equipment after experiments
- Provide indirect supervision of lab staff
- Assist with article preparation
- Participate in educational opportunities to stay current in field
Required Competencies:

Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, biology, biological anthropology, or chemistry.
- 5 years experience working in a Drosophila research lab.
- Experience producing and analyzing high-throughput sequence data using Drosophila as a model organism.
- History of publications in peer-reviewed journals-must provide evidence.
- Experience with confocal microscopy, biostatistics, bioinformatics, and qPCR.
- Successful completion of criminal history background check.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with RNA Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization.
- Experience in manuscript preparation.
- Experience with live-cell imaging.
- Lab management experience.
