Dr. Dent is Professor and holds the J. Ralph Meadows Chair of the Department of Epigenetics and Molecular Carcinogenesis at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Smithville, TX. She is also the Director of the Virginia Harris Cockrell Cancer Research Center at Science Park in Smithville, TX, and Director of the Center for Cancer Epigenetics at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. Dr. Dent is an expert in the role of histone acetyltransferases (HATs) in development, as well as in the crosstalk and cross-regulation of histone PTMs in normal and cancer cells. She is also vested into the mechanisms of gene regulation by chromatin remodeling machineries, and the role of histone PTMs readers in effecting the epigenetic code. Dr. Dent is also Editor of Molecular Cell.

Dr. Dent is the Editor-in-Chief in charge of histone PTMs-based cancer epigenetics, including the effect of histone PTM effectors, readers, and chromatin remodeling machineries. The Cancer Epigenetics Society congratulates Dr. Sharon Dent for her appointment at Cancer Epigenetics journal series, and looks forward to her leadership in bringing the field of cancer epigenetics to the fore of cancer research .
